If you love shipwrecks, sunken treasure and anything to do with the 1800's wrecking industry, you are in for a real treat here at the Key west Shipwreck Historeum. Key West was a major port, with 100 ships passing through each day. Lots of them ran aground on the reef just off Key West, and that's where the wreckers come in. Like scavenger ants, wrecker ships head out after a wreck and salvage what is left of lucrative cargo under the sea. One such famous wrecker was Asa Tift, who also happened to be the original owner of the Hemingway House. This historeum features artifacts, videos, and actors...it's very interactive.
Open daily from 9:45am to 4:45 pm with shows every half hour. There's an admission charge.
