The city of Islamorada is apparently deeply committed to the idea of public parks for everyone to enjoy. In the late 1990s the city bought a former yacht club (Plantation Yacht Harbor Resort) and turned it into a public park. A very nice public park. It's on the bay side of US1, and the beach is open to the public. You can sunbathe or go snorkeling, rent kayaks, paddleboats or even clearbottom boats here, all for a nominal admission fee. You can rent a lounge chair and there are restrooms, too. There is a pool, but it's for residents of Islamorada only.
