Attractions in Key West
Located at Atlantic Boulevard and White Street
Although the West Martello Tower is in terrible condition, as if it had been through a war, it never actually saw any Civil War action. Built in 1862, it was used by the US Navy for target practice, which explains the beat-up appearance of the facade. It now houses the Joe Allen Garden Center, which makes for a lovely afternoon or morning stroll, along with the self-guided tour pamphlet. The tour will help you find the various forms of vegetation here, including a Key Lime tree. The Key West Garen Club runs the garden, and admission is free. The Garden Center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30am to 3:15pm. Wonderful spot to relax and immerse yourelf in local flora away from the hustle and bustle of Old Town.
