The beach at Long Key State Park is really a very narrow strip of sand and the water is extremely shallow for quite a ways out, since the beach here is fronting the flats. But since lots of people like to just wade or don't even go into the water, this beach is just wonderful. The state park offers canoe rentals, which is a good idea since the waters near this park are calm calm calm. Float along and spot some birds or even go fishing here. There are charcoal grills in the picnic area in case you want to cook up your catch. The campsites are some of the best in the Keys, many with superb ocean views. There are restrooms and showers, of course, since it's a campground too. There's a fee for admission, and hours ae 8am to sunset.
