Attractions in Key West
Located at 938 Whitehead Street
This lighthouse was built in 1847, and is located across from the Hemingway Museum. Visitors can climb up the 90-foot structure to get a panoramic view of the city of Key West, above the treetops. The lighthouse was built inland, rather than right on the coast, to protect it from hurricanes. Its predecessor, located at Whitehead Point, was toppled during a hurricane in 1846. There's a gift shop and some artifacts on display in the old lighthouse keeper's quarters. This lighthouse is associated with the East Martello Museum and with the Key West Art & History Museum, so ask about a combo ticket when you get there. It's open every day from 9:30am to 5pm.
