The Hurricane Monument is dedicated to everyone who succumbed to a Labor Day hurricane in 1935. The hurricane hit Islamorada and killed hundreds of residents and railroad workers in a terrible violent fury. The scene is depicted on the monumet, which is made of local coral limestone and carved in bas relief. It's just off the Overseas Highway on the oceanside, look for a sign.
