Bahia Honda State Park has a very nice beach, and some say the best natural-style beach in the Florida Keys. You do get a sense of wild beach atmosphere, as the beach is backed by jungley mangrove thickets with winding trails through them. If this really appeals to you, you will be pleased to discover that there are campsites nestled in these thickets, so get your tent and head out. The campground is very popular, but in Spring the spots are coveted during Tarpon season. The Tarpon fishing under the Bahia Honda bridge is legendary, and Bahia Honda State Park is a boater's dream, with boat launches, its own marina, & overnight dockage available. There is also a dive shop where you can rent snorkeling gear or book a trip out to Looe Key National Sanctuary, where the snorkeling is fabulous. The concession building also sells groceries, souvenirs, and nautical supplies for boaters. In addition to all this, Bahia Honda offers nature walks and boat trips. Since it is a State Park, there is an admission fee. Hours are 8am to sunset.
