This is actually the house of the family of Captain John Geiger, who was a wrecker in the early 1800's. He lived here with his family, and created a spectacular garden. The garden enticed John Audubon to spend some time here in 1832, producing sketches of native wildlife. The lithographs of these sketches are on display in the Audobon House, eighteen in all. The house and gardens tour are open for you to stroll through, and you can pick up a free (with price of admission, that is) pair of headphones and a self-guided tour tape. Some people think two of John Audubon's very famous sketches were done here: that of the geiger tree and the white-croned pigeon.
Audubon Houe is open every day from 9:30am to 5pm. There is an admission price, under $10.
